Carbonation on the go

With the mini version of the carbonation rig, you can now carbonate drinks in small spaces and on the go.

The ability to carbonate drinks has been around since Joseph Priestley discovered that water could hold bubbles in 1767. Suspending a bowl of water over a vat of fermenting beer as Priestley did, however, is not the most effective way to capture carbon dioxide. Over the years, the methods and mechanics of carbonation have evolved according to need, such as soda fountains, mass production, cocktail bars, or home use.

Keeping the need for flexibility in mind, The Cocktail Balance has added a new item to our shop: the mini traveler carbonation rig. The small size, both of the pressure bottle itself and the gauges, increases the versatility of where you can carbonate drinks.

The small size of the mini carbonation rig is perfect for a:

  • small bar without space for a large carbonation set up

  • restaurant wanting to experiment with drinks

  • pop-up bar

  • guest shift

  • food truck or stall vendor

  • vacation

  • homebar

  • basically any kind of drinks lover anywhere

The carbonation rig can add a dash of pizazz to any drink, whether alcoholic cocktail, soda, flavoured water, or even plain water.

We have a few books that cover the topic of carbonation and are part of the Ultimate Carbonation Kit (currently sold out until Bubbles is back in stock), though each book can also be bought separately.

Fix the Pumps by Darcy S. O'Neil looks at the history of early soda fountains and expands on the techniques and recipes used by pharmacists and soda jerks to create these bubbling concoctions. The book contains over 450 pre-prohibition soda recipes, which were easily as creative and interesting as anything bartenders were making, as well as a wealth of information on techniques employed by soda jerks.

Both The Cocktail Balance books by Stanislav Harciník cover the topic of carbonation, especially 2.0, going into both the science and how-to.

Bubbles: A Guide to Carbonated Cocktails is the ultimate resource for those looking to master force-carbonated drinks. This debut book by Bart Miedeksza and Valentino Girotto is packed with over 300 pages of expert knowledge, covering key topics like pressure, sugar types, alcohol content, foaming tips, and bubble size (currently sold out).

Bubbles in Skinny Paloma from The Cocktail Balance 2.0, also available as a Fine Art Print.
