Remembrance of Drinks Past: Your Senses, Memory, and The Proust Effect

Join bartender/author Stanislav Harcinik and Master Distiller Joseph O’Sullivan as they detail the effect taste and smell have on our memory. In this seminar they will explore the “Proustian phenomenon” through both cultural and scientific lens as they explain why it is that the food and drink we consume are every bit as transcendent as an old photo album or the journals we keep.
This seminar will delve into the limbic system of the brain, the hippocampus and olfactory bulb, with hope to motivate and inspire members of our industry by giving them a scientific understanding of how their work can impact others.
What bartenders and distillers do has the potential to reach into someone and transport them. It is the purpose of this seminar to offer the reasons behind these experiences.
